This may be totally unrelated and a bit out there, but maybe we need a couple people on staff (or just volunteers) that will judge shows that are hosted, people have entered then the show host just...disappears and doesn't seem inclined to judge their own show. Really frustrating when you make multiple entries and put all that time and effort into it. Maybe even make some kind of penalty for hosting a show then not judging within a reasonable amount of time without explanation...? I say this because I can list two shows currently that ended last month, its now nearing the end of this month, and results have yet to be posted or mentioned by the show host despite both being online around the 20th of this month. It makes me less inclined to join shows if I don't know the person hosting and see them around the community a lot.
And I do agree its hard to see whats open and whats closed without going through every show thread to be absolutely sure since not everyone posts deadlines/open/closed in the title. Maybe we need a 'closed shows' board where they will be moved after they are over.
As for entering shows, I have been slower to enter because RL has not been nice to me, but I am working on getting it back. I placed a show down now, even with price money, but I doubt I get many entries, as someone already said people tend to just join shows from people they either know, are on the staff or are friends with. It is a normal human thing. I for one would not enter a show from someone I know won't enter mine. But that is just one or two.
As for tack, which also has been a subject. I do like a guideline for it. Seeing I mostly teach kids and not the highest classes, I tend to steal the tack rules from people who seem knowledgeable in it. If it goes with kids there is mostly a more free range as for the color of saddle pad, as up to 17 or 18, most can't compete in the advanced classes of the profession riders ( I really said most, there are acceptions).
